Destruction of SPED records

NOTIFICATION OF DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS:


Please read below to ascertain the policy by which certain student records will be destroyed:



DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS-IDEA, PART B AND PRESCHOOL:

The NPSD will continue its process of destroying selected records pertaining to IDEA, Part B and Preschool Special Education.  These records pertain to: All requirements under IDEA Part B and PS documentation for years prior to and including 2009-2010 school year.  These records are no longer needed as requirements under 2004 IDEA Part B and PS Federal and State Regulations and destruction of the records is the best prevention against improper and unauthorized disclosure.  The North Pike School District Board approved the destruction of these records on 1/7/16.  After 45 days, these records will be boxed and a request will be made to the superintendent to destroy these records.  






DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION AND RELATED SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES UNDER IDEA:

 The NPSD will continue its process of destroying selected records pertaining to Special Education and Related Services.  These records pertain to: Former students who reached their 21st birthday on or before January 1, 2010.  These records are no longer needed to provide educational services, and destruction of the records is the best prevention against improper and unauthorized disclosure.  However, said records may be needed by former students or parents of former students for future purposes, i.e. Social Security Benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation eligibility purposes, etc.  The NPSD Board approved on 1/7/16 the destruction of these records. This notice will also appear in the Enterprise Journal newspaper on 1/19/16 and 3/4/16 for your review.   If you would like to obtain a copy of these records, please contact Suzette Blanton (601) 276-6927 in the Special Education Department.  These records are available to parents or students (18) years of age or older with proper identification.  After 45 days, these records will be boxed and a request will be made to the superintendent to destroy these records. The 45 day period will begin on January 19, 2016 and end on March 30, 2016.
